‘Hay sickle’ – two-handed tool with an arched blade 60 to 90 cm long, attached perpendicularly to a handle 140 to 160 cm long and equipped with two handles; the sickle appeared in Europe from the 12th century onwards. Its use almost disappeared with the spread of mechanical mowers.
